Toyota Land Cruiser Turns 60

Get your noise makers, cowbells, and horns. It's time to celebrate! Toyota's hard-working, go-anywhere all-terrain Land Cruiser just turned 60.

Looking back in time, we can see that the Land Cruiser was originally developed for intensive military use under the nameplate Toyota BJ.  It was actually the first vehicle ever to climb to the sixth hill station on Mt. Fuji (2,500 meters), proving it had the brawn to conquer even the most challenging of terrain.

In 1951, the Toyota Land Cruiser was originally coined the Toyota BJ. It wasn't until three years after its grand debut that Toyota changed the nameplate to Land Cruiser. Since that change, five-million of these iconic trucks have been sold around the globe.

Over the years, the Toyota Land Rover has evolved from the BJ to the FJ to the 20 Series to the 200 Series. With each evolution the vehicle has gained many levels of luxury. So many that it's hard to look at the original BJ ancestor and the latest Land Rover on the road and see any relationship.

Needless to say, sixty years from its original launch model, the mighty Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 is stronger than ever. Celebrating this momentous occasion in style, the new Land Cruiser 60th Anniversary model takes its position at the top of the model range for 2011, adding lots of extra features to the LC5 model it replaces. The Land Cruiser V8 60th Anniversary is joining in on the fun as well outfitted with an impressive package of added premium features.

Scion's little Japanese sports coupe never fails to disappoint - and still attracts a younger crowd looking for speed and reliability - all under $20,000. There are more edgier, straighter lines that go along with the tC in its new design. Gone are some of the lumpy corners previous models contained, but there is still no mistaking it for any other sporty auto.
